What does Yast2 -> Network Devices -> Network Settings
tell you about the new adapter? Does it show up there?
No, it doesn't. I've tried adding it, but whenever I open the Network
Settings again, it's gone (I assume because it isn't being detected).
Ok, I've looked at that URL I mentioned last night, and I notice that it
will give you some hints, but it may not solve your problem completely
either.
Here's what seems to be the case - you don't have the driver installed.
Until you have the driver you're not going anywhere.
You can get the driver from the URL you originally posted. *But*, as you
are using SuSE 11.2, I would recommend getting the driver from the online
openSUSE 11.2 wireless repository, because then SuSE does much of the
work for you.
If you want to use the openSUSE 11.2 wireless repository, do the
following:
Yast2 -> Software Repositories -> Configured Software Repositories ->
Add -> Specify URL -> Name = (any arbitrary string), URL =
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/driver:/wireless/openSUSE_11.2/
-> Next
Now you should be able to bring up the 'Software Management' tab for
Yast2, search on ar9170, and have it find the firmware that you are
looking for. Install it as you would any other software.
Once the drivers are installed, try removing/re-attaching the adapter and
see what shows up in dmesg and also in Yast -> Network Devices -> Network
Settings. (Until the device shows up there, I don't think anything else
network related will make a difference.)
