That's actually my thread. :D I'm "Roy Preston" there. I've been trying to get help there on the opensuse forums as well as here. > ---------- Forwarded message ---------- > From: David Fleck <[email protected]> > To: "General Linux/UNIX discussion and help; civil and on-topic" > <[email protected]> > Date: Sun, 19 Dec 2010 09:36:38 -0600 (CST) > Subject: Re: [PLUG] Installing DWA 160 wireless adapter > On Sat, 18 Dec 2010, Mark Jones wrote: >>> >>> From: David Fleck <[email protected]> > Ok, I've looked at that URL I mentioned last night, and I notice that it will > give you some hints, but it may not solve your problem completely either. > > Here's what seems to be the case - you don't have the driver installed. I did as you suggested, and immediately got three auto-suggestions for software to install, which I did. Then I searched for ar9170, and found a couple more (the firmware you mentioned), and installed that as well. > Once the drivers are installed, try removing/re-attaching the adapter and see > what shows up in dmesg and also in Yast -> Network Devices -> Network > Settings. (Until the device shows up there, I don't think anything else > network related will make a difference.) I still don't see anything in Yast ->Network Devices->Network settings except the ethernet card. I know the USB port I'm using for the wireless adapter works--when I plug my Nook into it, it detects the device and I can interact with it easily. I suppose the (new) wireless adaptor could be borked, but I don't know how likely that is, or how to check it. Or what else the problem might be if that isn't it. I really like my linux box most of the time. But there are times when I'm frustrated enough to wonder about going back to Windows. Then I remember what dealing with Windows was like and the feeling eventually goes away.... _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
