Perfect answer! Thanks so much.  I booted with the CD, went to "Rescue 
mode", stumbled a bit with setting up the network, but got it working. 
Now I'm rsync'ing all the files to one of the live machines. Looks like 
all 3 drives are intact. The rescue disc saw them and was able to read 
them, but when I try to boot from either of those hard discs the system 
can't see them. Could it be some conflict with the CMOS and what's 
really hooked up?
