I had some connect problems today that came and went, and finally went. I called the Comcast tech support line and, after an automated attempt at resetting my modem -- which included their computer asking me to unplug my router! -- I still couldn't connect to the Internet. So their phone computer connected me to a helpful tech support guy. We went through the same process of resetting the modem from their end (I had tried power cycling myself before I called) but it didn't help. Then he had me disconnect the router and connect one of my computers directly. After he again reset the modem, I was connected. He then had me reconnect the router, and he reset the modem, and everything worked.
His surmise was that the router was failing. In his experience they only last 2-3 years. Mine has lasted over 10 years. It is a Netgear RT-314. If he is correct, then I've had plenty of good service and shouldn't be too concerned about having to replace it. If they are as reliable as switches, then I'm not surprised. I've had to replace a couple of those over the years. So, my question: What routers are you folks using that you're happy with? TIA for recommendations. -- Regards, Dick Steffens _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
