Usually, the scenario is something where they are in trouble, or they want to come where you are, or something. They seem nice enough. So the conversation continues. Eventually, they gather enough information (search the web for social engineering) where they can tailor their conversations to seem like just the kind of people you like. Then they ask seemingly innocuous questions, spaced far enough apart that you don't realize what you are giving them. Further down the line, they have enough information, gathered from you, and from what they can find on the net, that they can open accounts in your name, or something else that you aren't expecting. And, as the story goes, they disappear "like a fart in the wind". Oh, and this person you are talking to is smart enough to hide their yahoo profile.
