I've been using iGoogle for a while. I like the idea of customizing my browser start page, adding maps and weather and calendar. However, google is increasingly taking control of the page, and forcing "features" that I don't want, to the point that I am looking for another option that gives me more control (and launches from a local html file).
I can imagine a local file that can still access third party Google applets, while allowing the creation of local applets. For example, I use an applet called "mysearches" or sometimes "Multi Search", which allows me to enter text then choose the site or search engine to process or search it. I would love to add more search sites to it. But in the short term, a local page that can handle existing google applets would be dandy. Is there anything like that out there? Is there a website which (perhaps for paypal donations) allows me to design such a page and download it to a local directory? If not, is this a business opportunity for a javascript- proficient web page designer?
