   Close, but not quite there yet. Each call to xrandr reports it failed to
get size of gamma for the default output (the only one active). Then, when I
get to the last step on that series of instructions I also see: "Configure
crtc 0 failed." Whatever that means. However, both resolutions are listed as
available, but the 1280x800 is the default and I cannot seem to switch that
to the 1440x900.

   So, I need to hunt for a source of additional xrandr expertise.
