This is what I have on my other NFS root server where I have Fedora Core
1 on the server I want to change. Trouble is, I can run Perl 5.12.x on
the Slackware 10 box but I can't run that on the Fedora Core 1 box. So
I can't set up checking the current temperature from a sensor because
the perl-Storable module doesn't match. The obvious solution is to back
up the Fedora Core 1 system and replace it with Slackware 10.1.
Question is, what is the easiest way short of throwing a hard drive at
the problem to do this?

Here is the idea I'm mulling over:

Wipe off the dedicated partition on the server and untar Slackware
10.1's aaa_base package in that directory. Will that create the proper
directory structure and put everything in the right place or do I need
to do something else? After that, I figure I need to install the bash
package. What else am I doing to need to unpack to get the system to
boot? At the point I can boot, I should be able to add packages from
the client side.

Next question, does anyone know of a set of Slackware rc scripts I can
grab that have been redesigned for NFS root? It would be convenient to
be able to say reboot remotely and have that work.
