I can't figure out how to install a custom kernel. Yes I found out about ghex2. Yes I tried editing the zimage root=. The result, a kernel that makes the blue light around the DVD slot flash and nothing else.
Another problem, gnome is way too slow to be usable. I've looked at the menuconfig for the kernel, nothing jumps out at me. Even so, unless I can figure out how to install a new kernel I can't use a custom kernel. The color scheme is disgusting, puke green and salmon. I'm running etch as that is all I could seemingly install via homebrew channel. If I aptitude remove gnome, will that help at all? I want something that operates smoothly enough to stream movies.
