I got that far, then I got stuck for quite a while on exactly what to _do_ with it.
Eventually I found a bug (in the release notes -- who ever reads those??) that mentioned Unity not starting up correctly with some graphics hardware. Per that bug report, I set my desktop to start as Ubuntu Classic, and all is now working smoothly. I think I need a new graphics card if I want Unity, but I can live without.
