As I look at the link you > provided there might be something in there. I'll dig further. showkey(1) and xmodmap(1) are your friends (but read the man pages _carefully_). Showkey will you what keycodes the foot switches emit. Xmodmap will let you map them to whatever you need, before any application program sees them. For example, I have my Caps Lock and Left Ctrl keys swapped.
