System is Acer Aspire 1640Z laptop running Ubuntu 10.04. Not too many months ago (June, 2011) I was able to connect the headphone out of my boom box to the line in of my laptop and, using Audacity, record a tape from my boom box. I was also able to monitor the sound being recorded through the laptop speakers, or separate speakers connected to the laptop's headphone jack.
I have another project requiring conversion of audio tape to digital file (these are interviews to be transcribed, not copyrighted recordings). I am able to record, but not able to monitor the recording. Has something changed that would have been implemented in an upgrade between June and now? I've looked for things muted, but nothing is -- which makes sense since I can play back the recording and hear it just fine. Googling indicated something was going on with ALSA being deprecated (or something) and pulse audio being the new, preferred sound sub system, but I don't find anything that explains how to get monitoring working. Pointers, better Google foo, workarounds, similar experience -- any or all would be appreciated. Thanks. -- Regards, Dick Steffens _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
