Did I not make clear that for purpose of the analogy I make
clear differing repository schemes had a similarity to
differing manufacturers - i.e. no expectation of
interchangeable parts. OK, so I'm of an age which recalls
lack of standardization of how driver interacted with an
automatic transmission across manufactures - not even to
pull from a museum how "standard" transmissions differed.
IIRC there was a 50's era Desoto which did not require use
of clutch pedal when shifting.
