I have been hooking asterisk to vitelity.net to provide my in and out trunks, and it usually works well. Once in a while, maybe once or twice a week, I can make a bad call, and the person I called has a hard time understanding me. When that happens, I can call the echo number 9093900009, and sure enough, my voice is breaking up. I've submitted 4 trouble tickets to Vitelity, and they say they have made routing changes, but the problem keeps recurring. They ask for a traceroute to I guess their server when it acts up, and here is the current one, in case someone on the list can solve my problem with this. traceroute 64.2.142.25 traceroute to 64.2.142.25 (64.2.142.25), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets 1 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1) 3.125 ms 3.397 ms 3.698 ms 2 50-39-192-1.bvtn.or.frontiernet.net (50.39.192.1) 28.144 ms 28.385 ms 29.167 ms 3 184.19.244.238 (184.19.244.238) 30.194 ms 30.884 ms 32.318 ms 4 xe--11-3-0---0.car01.bvtn.or.frontiernet.net (50.38.7.17) 73.370 ms 73.642 ms 73.834 ms 5 ae2---0.cor01.ptld.or.frontiernet.net (74.40.1.161) 47.324 ms 48.466 ms 49.400 ms 6 ae0---0.cor02.ptld.or.frontiernet.net (74.40.4.110) 50.616 ms 33.581 ms 35.172 ms 7 ae1---0.cor01.sttl.wa.frontiernet.net (74.40.2.154) 34.811 ms 36.151 ms 37.722 ms 8 ae0---0.cbr01.sttl.wa.frontiernet.net (74.40.5.122) 37.914 ms 38.590 ms 39.735 ms 9 AS2828.cbr01.sttl.wa.frontiernet.net (74.40.26.161) 143.294 ms 143.542 ms 143.810 ms 10 vb2000d1.rar3.seattle-wa.us.xo.net (207.88.13.142) 58.248 ms 58.498 ms 62.248 ms 11 te-4-0-0.rar3.denver-co.us.xo.net (207.88.12.82) 122.885 ms 123.177 ms 123.850 ms 12 ae0d0.mcr1.englewood-co.us.xo.net (216.156.0.10) 117.584 ms 96.038 ms 97.694 ms 13 xo-tengige.brdr4.dnvr.vitel.net (216.55.56.10) 98.178 ms 100.043 ms 100.773 ms 14 * * * 15 64.2.142.25.GIGe-net.vitel.net (64.2.142.25) 105.739 ms 106.663 ms 107.830 ms It looks like it is taking the long way there. In fact the phone isn't working at all right now. The asterisk log is full of: [2012-02-12 04:02:02] VERBOSE[32718] asterisk.c: -- Remote UNIX connection disconnected [2012-02-12 16:08:37] NOTICE[2866] chan_sip.c: -- Registration for ' [email protected]' timed out, trying again (Attempt #2) [2012-02-12 16:08:57] NOTICE[2866] chan_sip.c: -- Registration for ' [email protected]' timed out, trying again (Attempt #3) (probably 30 more lines as above) I'll reboot my asterisk box, and that might heal it up for a while. Does anyone have experience with a voip provider who delivers reliable, quality voip calls over a DSL line, in the Portland Metro Area?
