Many web pages come with a left and right sidebar (and banners and footers and all sorts of other nonsense). Using Firefox, if I want to print just the content in the middle, I can try selecting it with the mouse, but the "print selection" checkbox is often disabled.
I found a Really Cool firefox addon: "Print Edit" (V 7.1 ) This allows me to graphically edit the page, selecting the elements I want to print or delete. I can reformat the edited page with my own CSS. I can save the result locally. All I really need to do for now is delete the left sidebar, but it is nice to know there are tools for serious page surgery. It would be nice to have an option or addon that lets me combine multiple edited page fragments into a new page, so I can remix content, but that may be going Too Far.
