Someone from another list (and continent ;) is helping me
with a problem.

Has suggested that I use two commands from a terminal session:
   $ dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc
   $ sudo grub-install /dev/sda

He has shut down for the night and I wish to do some
research while I wait for his reply tomorrow.

I'm looking for finer grain information on dpkg-reconfigure
and sudo grub-install than given by the man pages.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 (GRUB version 1.98)
I've search ubuntu.com, debian.org, and some Google searches.
I can find "current info" or "detailed info" but not
"current detail info".
[and the detailed info only hints at what I'm looking for -
some even explicitly states that it does not address my
environment]

I think this is the type of search I should be able to do,
but I don't yet grok the Linux mindset.

TIA
