Do not accuse me of that. The only thing I know about it is what I read in
the papers.

The web instructions for making a USB startup disk said at one point "open
dash and...", so I had to ask Dr. Google WTF is dash?  That is when I found
out that it is part of Unity.  That the document writers thought it was
appropriate to assume that someone looking to download 10.04LTS would know
what dash is was the reason for my rant.

What is the desktop you are using now?
