How much memory does your system have? If it's not being otherwise used, it might grab that much for disk cache, but it will be reclaimed when needed and shouldn't cause spilling to the swap partition. How much swap is in use when this happens? If it doesn't go up then it's just normal disk caching using otherwise unused memory.
