As it turns out, Comcast sends an analog signal with channels 2 - 3x (1?
2?) along with their digital signal. They made a big fuss about having a
digital only service back a year or two ago when they made their switch.
But, all they did was make everything above what they now call Limited
Basic, digital to their set top box. The box I have does not have a
digital output. I couldn't get the otherwise in store folks in Gladstone
understand that what's coming out of the RCA jacks on the back of their
box is analog. I can feed it into my old VCR and it works. But that's
yet another issue.

I have the coax coming out of the wall going into a splitter. One half
goes to the Comcast set top box; the other half to the antenna in on the
back of my TV. If I switch the TV to its TV input I can step through the
channels with the TV remote from 2 to 31. I can't get any of the
channels beyond that without tuning through the Comcast box. The output
of the Comcast box goes to my ReplayTV 4080. That's too old to deal with
a digital signal. It's output goes to RCA jacks on the back of the TV.
My TV has a couple of HDMI jacks, one of which I use with my Blu-ray
player. That's the only digital TV signal source in the house.

So, if John has a coax from the wall, and if the WinTV-PVR-150 accepts a
coax in, then it should tune the channels he expects with Basic service.

When Comcast switched to so-called Digital service they ruined the
channel surfing experience. With good old analog I could click the
remote and another channel would pop up nearly instantaneously. Now, to
channel surf I have to wait two or three seconds while the set top box
figures out what I want and puts it up on the screen. So, I haven't
channel surfed for a couple of years, now. (That's probably just as
well, but it's annoying that they claimed an improvement but delivered a
downgrade in order to get it.) Anyway, with the ReplayTV 4080 we rarely
watch anything live anymore, anyway, so it no longer matters.
[rant mode off]

So, I'd say, go for it, John. And if you get MythTV working, we'd love
to hear about your experience. If my Replay ever dies I'll probably have
to build a Myth box, myself.
