In the FAQ for the printer, Epson says that you should use the "HPLJ2 > printer driver" i.e. a HP LaserJet II (or other PCL4) driver.
I'll keep this in mind in case I get some unexplained stuff when I print. So far, it looks like the ActionLaser 1100 driver is working okay.
