This gives me some places to start looking.

I did see the nm stuff but didn't have the Netbook handy to give it a 
try.  I know that F12 is _*EOL*_ ... really EOL but it has been working 
fine for what I use it for and I fell updating every six months is crazy 
so I've stuck with it.

I'll avoid that.  I was hoping someone else might have run into this 
problem and solved it.  Looks like I get to be the first.

Part of the reason for updating is to get rid of the encrypted 
partition.  It made seen at the time I did it but doesn't now.

List looks good.  I should have just searched for NetworkManager instead 
of "{Fedora,Linux} wireless connection {listing, information}" and other 
similar.

This is great but if you're willing to write a script to pull the info 
I'd use it! :-)
