( reaction to clueless programmer omitted ... why the hell
can't some programmers respect modularity? )

I'm betting very much the latter. We are not the calm cerebral
creatures we pretend to be. We become enraged because of an
accumulation of upsets, rarely a single event. The upsets are
usually multidomain, stuff coming in from all angles. And when
we are enraged, we drop into tunnel vision, hypersensitivity,
complete abandonment of moral restraint or thoughts about
consequences. It says something about Mr. Torvalds that he is
still able to type a coherent sentence in such circumstances.

The fact that he is still alive tells us that this is rare,
because he would surely be dead or in prison if this was a
frequent problem for him. I bet a bunch of other bad things
happened to him on the 23rd. Car accident, airport delays,
plumbing failure, child tantrums, bad news from a doctor?
I was on the east coast that day, what was going on here?

I've felt that killing rage once in my life. I was very close
to picking up a chair and crushing someone's skull. It took all
my discipline to just turn around and walk out the door. I've
done that a few times since, when I got even close to that level
of anger. Otherwise, I would be in prison instead of writing this.
