Hi, Bill!

I don't know if my solution will work for you but I'll make it available
for your consideration.

Here, postfix is on the main server/workstation. Since Frontier
Communications bought the Verizon Northwest land line business they stopped
supporting static IP addresses; some times they change my DHCP-issued IP
address 40 times overnight. So now all my outgoing mail must be relayed
through the SMTP server at my ISP instead of going directly toward the
recipient. But, it's made no difference in remotely sending mail from my
laptop when I'm traveling.

I use ssh to remotely log in on my server, then open alpine in a virtual
console, and read/write messages using this MUA. When a message is sent it
is from my main server to the ISP and gets to the addressee with no more
hassle than if I was sitting at my desk in the office. I'm sure it would
work equally well if you use a GUI MUA on your office server.

Happy New Year,

Rich
