If you want "it just works" CPAN module installation, cpanminus (http://p3rl.org/cpanm aka `curl -L cpanmin.us > cpanm`) is much easier than CPAN.pm / CPANPLUS.pm... so unless you need special features, you can stop reading now. Now, a knob you should not need to worry about because cpanminus does what you want by default: If you set the environment variable PERL_MM_USE_DEFAULT=1, that will cover all cases where the author is correctly using the prompt() command to request input at build time.
