If I correctly recall a message here from a couple of months ago there is an alternative to whatismyip for automatically checking for a changed IP address. I'm having much difficulty with this site and am stymied in my attempts to get help there.
A couple of days ago I started getting messages every 15 minutes that the cron script checking whatismyip.com failed to get a new IP address. I changed the time the script runs to every 2 hours since that is the new free lookup limit (12/day). I still get the same script error message. Looking at the log I see that whatismyip.com dropped their .asp interface (I'm guessing that's what it is). When I received the notice of their changes a month or two ago I registered with them for the free account and 12 lookups per day so I don't know what's not working. On their web site I try logging in to their fora but my password is constantly rejected. Since I recoreded that password this makes no sense. To rub salt in my wound, trying to have them send me the password they have also fails because, the message box saye, I've given them an e-mail address not in their database. Yet, when I try to register again they tell me my username and e-mail address are already in their system. Trying to contact an adminstrator (their next suggestion) also fails because I need to enter my username and password to send the admin a message asking why I cannot use my username and password. Checkmate. Verizon seems to have slowed the frequency of IP address changes so every 2 hours should certainly be a sufficient interval to check. But, whatismyip.com is no longer responding to the cron script nor allowing me to ask anyone there what broke. Suggestions for alternatives are needed.
