USB3 is 4.8Gbps . If the protocols and code supported it, that is plenty fast enough to move your internet traffic and all your peripheral information, via a USB hub connected to your laptop with one cable. So that (potentially) would be two plugs, one for power and one for USB3. Regards "cables to the side", that could be remediated with a "cable cover platform" - a hypothetical something about a centimeter high, hollow/on-short-feet, flush with the top of the keyboard, hollow (say on some short feet) underneath, making a surface extending to the side. But that is hypothetical, I don't know whether the code and the peripherals exist to actually move network traffic effectively over USB3, or whether USB3 and USB2 can be mixed through a hub or switch at USB3 speeds. It still does not deal with wearout on the power connector, the main reason I use a docking station. Does anyone know about networking over USB3 with Linux?
