Just continue to proceed with caution. In some cases, there are "system helpful" partitions; my Lenovo (T410) has an NTFS partition with some diagnostic programs that -- if I'm understanding correctly (haven't tested recently) -- can help recover from certain kinds of crashes. I think my Dell e1405 had something similar. But they were not "system necessary".
