Thanks, John. Both of those are useful. I downloaded the deb, and then tried to edit the appropriate file per the second link you provided. It appeared to be successful. Then I installed the deb using the Ubuntu Software Center. On 10.04 that installation When I ran it I got the same error messages. So, I went to /usr/bin and edited footpedal. The comments were not there. So, I guess it's not a good idea to try to edit a file inside a package. Anyway, I put the comments back in, saved the file. The file runs, but does not provide the indicator icon that when clicked allows changing the configuration of the buttons. However, I suspect that I can spend some time with the program file and figure out what to change to eliminate all the options I don't want to use. The original programmer use the footpedal for more than start/stop/rewind types of functions, and he has volume up/down as the default. Thanks, again. -- Regards, Richard C.
