My old computer (Xubuntu 12.04) offered me three Greek keyboard
options in the GUI Xfce Settings Editor: Simple, Modern and Polytonic.
My new computer (Xubuntu 13.10) offers me only Modern. I need Polytonic.

An aside for your edification: Ancient Greek used three different tones.
Later editions of the language lost the tones, so by the time
typewriters were invented no one had any use for the tone diacritics.
Hence, they are not available on the Modern Greek keyboard, and I
cannot write my Ancient Greek homework with it.

My not-always-trustworthy friend Mr. Google provided me with this page,
where I am led to believe that setxkbmap can solve my problem:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/197095/how-to-add-greek-polytonic-with-setxkbmap

Unfortunately, the authors of that page assumed I knew what to do with
their code. They were far too optimistic. All I've been able to figure
out is that setxkbdmap is part of some X utility package.

Note that I need to be able to switch back and forth, and normally be
in US English. Otherwise I'd have to post here in Greek.

I could use some suggestions. Anyone?
