It’s always a crapshoot when buying a hard drive.

WD lost my business in about 2002 when several drives failed on me in one week,
less than one month after purchase.

The DeathStar fiasco with IBM seemed to migrate to Hitachi when that
consolidation took place.

Toshiba does lots of things, does it do any of them well? (says the man with a
Toshiba TV hanging on his living room wall.)

Seagate has had issues. But they seem to have far fewer issues than other
manufactures. The main issue being that most of the time, drives fail long
after we stop worrying about the ‘new electronics.’

Which is where the question, “Have you tested your backup?” was born.

Hard drives fail. This is a fact of life.
