Was ...
ISP -> DSL modem (theirs) -> BEFSR81 (switch/router ->
computers/printers
the DSL has a public address facing out, and a private address facing in
(192.168.1.1)
The switch/router had private address inside (192.168.0.x) and a default
gateway (192.168.1.1)
Now ...
ISP (same one) -> DSL modem (same one) -> EFAH08W ->
computers/printers (sames ones)
the DSL setup remains unchanged
the HUB (10/100) ... I assume it is neutral in the address arena, but
all my internal addresses are now in the 192.168.1.x range.
Diagnostic ...
DSL could not see BEFSR81 ... meaning that the Ethernet light on
the DSL remained dark
Computers could not see BEFSR81 ... meaning any attempt to connect
to the router/switch failed to find the device
(192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1)
(after sending the original message, I did finally think of, and
try the reset on the back of the router/switch)
On putting the HUB in the place of the router/switch, the DSL and the
computers were all happy ... I just had to change the 3rd octet on my
printer addresses/net mask.
So, I am guessing that the DSL is handing out DHCP?
Yes, I think I will opt for a new router/switch/firewall.
Thanks
