If your after an inexpensive multifunction machine, I've had reasonable luck with the canon MP series, currently using a MP465. Although it measures just over 17" wide as well. But no side access is necessary.
It's a little strange, it used to be drivers had to be downloaded from the Australian canon web site, but now ubuntu has them. setting up wireless w/o windows wasn't too bad once I learned the tricks. You have to create a network with SSID BJNPSETUP. The printer will connect to it by hitting the maintenance button 13 or 14 times until yo see a character that looks like cap G without the horizonal line Then press color start button. Then with it's ip address browse to it from another machine and configure the real SSID and password info and then print a test page from linux. After the fact, I even found the BJNPSETUP hack in their manual, once I knew what I was looking for. The linux drivers, support scanning and printing. And the cartridges are easily refillable. As long as your not after high quality photo work. steve > On Sun, Jun 1, 2014 at 7:26 PM, logical american > <[email protected]> wrote: >> Another and final update on the topic of wireless printers for linux. >> >> I found out that the new HP 8600e fax/copier/scanner/printer will work >> greater under either openSuse v13.1 linux or MS XP for printing and >> scanning.
