I find good ThinkPad machines on EBay, I have not had a bad one yet, do have one that the keyboard is getting flaky but those are easy to get, EBay, Amazon, same goes for most ThinkPad parts.
Get one that is not too old and save your self some money, I picked up a X200 for $160.00 I am using it to do this email. It was missing the HD, but I was going to put a bigger HD in it anyway so it was not a issue.
