I have re-read the original announcement of last nights' meeting, and even
at the announcement stage, it seemed better matched for the Maker community
than the Linux community.

For example, if this topic had been "Let's look at how to write a Python
script to automate some Arduino powered CNCs to build an AK-47", it MAY
have been closer aligned with our goals. From the announcement and these
comments, though, I'm confident that was NOT the nature of the discussion.

Now, don't get me wrong: There is a good amount of overlap between the
Maker community and the Linux community... FOSS philosophies are common
between both groups, and in fact much of what the Maker community does is
on Linux... But that doesn't mean EVERY topic that fits the Maker community
automatically matches the Linux community; In fact, I would argue that
Linux topics probably fit better in Maker meetings than Maker topics do in
Linux meetings.

While looking at topics that are a fusion between Linux and other
hobbies... I'm a pretty big fan of ham radio, and there are plenty of
projects in ham radio that use Linux; AX.25 Soundmodem Drivers for both
packet and APRS, Broadband-Hamnet (Formerly HSMM-MESH), and
telemetry/telecommand all come to mind as interesting topics that actually
DO relate to Linux, Unix, and Computers in general.
