Hey, just wanted to throw in my $.02 here on the subject. I've found, for accurate bandwidth profiling and 'real' bandwidth limits (as opposed to advertised & contracted, 'ideal' limits), it usually is best to take somewhere between 5 & 10 mainstream bandwidth & lag service providers, pick about half of the servers for geographical/network proximity, and the rest at random, and then average the results of them all. I've used that method when trying to minimize the amount of bandwidth loss due to QoS scheduling w/a major percentage of 'real' bandwidth allocated to QoS services (which always have to keep a few percent in reserve). I've found that this method seems to be the most accurate; I can trim bandwidth reserve down to 2-3% and still get excellent QoS with this method. It's a little bit of a pain in the butt, but it does seem to reflect available speed much better. - -- Opinions expressed are not necessarily those of the owner of this corporeal, rotting porksuit, nor its fiat-currency waving handlers. - -Damo -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.13 (OpenBSD) iF4EAREIAAYFAlP+TOwACgkQerX40lUXtCNCzwEAhMw/OtNssHhV3UzJvtnVPSoY O457054ZizkMut7rFYUA/0pYim0757tVPVpn2DoHb+Kuqs4cGKaFPf0XhNp6/CLW =igz2 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
