Well that makes sense.

I took it apart, but things were so buttoned up that I did not go very
far before getting cold feet.  Not much dust in the part that I
exposed.  I did find a wire routed incorrectly which caused a thin
metal shield to be slightly bent and in the wrong position.  I
corrected that and got it all back together.  No symptoms upon
restarting, but I expect it takes a longer time without power to cause
the problem to surface.  I will just wait to see if this gets worse in
a hurry.  Maybe I will time how long it takes for steady light and
keep a record.  It is a nice monitor--no reason to get rid of it at
present.
