Skype's installed on a laptop here but tells the user that it cannot connect. Futzing with it reveals that it is seeking a Web browser and cannot find what it seeks. The default seems to be 'Google.'
The user perfers to use Google Chrome so that was set as the default browser, then skype was restarted. Still could not connect, but a choice widget offered a list of browsers. Selected 'Other' and clicked the 'OK' button; skype showed 'Google Chrome %s%' and that choice was accepted. Skype shut down and restarted. Same results. Firefox was in skype's list of browsers so that was made the default (and chrome made the non-default browser). Stopped and restarted skype with the same lack of results: cannot connect. Found no way to display that browser choice box again to specify firefox as the browser for skype to use. Web searches asking how to select a browser for skype produce many hits on how to make any flavor of browser the default, on how to use IE, and a single hit on a thread asking how to specify skype's browser on ubuntu; no response there. Anyone with experience with skype who has suggestions on what to do (or try) next, please share your thoughts.
