Folks, I have one of these boxes here at my home. I use it to store stuff on but I would like to rework the thing put a new system on it and bring it up to date. really only using the case and disk drives, or the holders.
The system runs some variant of Linux, but I do not know how to get into it beyond using the web interface. It has some very noisy fans on it, and is not all that fast. Also if I want to put new disk drives on it I need a key, the key has been long lost and there appears to be no way to get a new one as the company no longer exist. So I figured I would back up what is on the disk gut the thing and put a new MOBO in it with Linux that I can work on and also look at putting bigger hard drives on it so I have more space to store stuff. Any recommendations? I really want to use it to store my videos more than anything else, but I want to set up raid so if one disk goes bad I can still recover the rest of it. It has 4 hard drives installed in it. That is the amount of drives it has space for. They are all SATA, so that should be pretty easy to deal with. I saw somewhere something about someone getting access to the on board system and just changing the software, but it was not in depth as it did not give the particulares of how to get into it, but since I need a key to change hard drives, I figured it would be better just to use the case and HD hardware and put a new MOBO in it getting rid of the need for the softkey to swap or change the HD's on the device. It presently has about 2TB of available HD space using 4 1tb HD's. I would like to put bigger HD's in it so that I have at least about 5TB of space. In order to do that I will have to rebuild the thing. -- Chuck Hast -- KP4DJT -- Glass, five thousand years of history and getting better.
