Last Sunday at the Clinic I had occasion to format someone's 2GB USB
drive FAT32. In doing so I gave it the label FAT32. The drive was
briefly mounted on my computer at /media/jjj. All my disks, including
all my thumb drives are formatted ext4.

This device has not been near my computer for nearly a week, yet Thunar
(the default Xfce file manager) continues to list it in the left pane
under Devices. Indeed, when mounted it appears at the command line as
well. I can umount it from the command line or with Thunar, but Thunar
still lists it as a device.

I also find it in /dev/disk/by-label/. It may also exist in some of the
other 'by-' folders in /dev/disk, but the contents of the other 'by-'
folders is not immediately clear.

1) What happened to create this mess?

2) How can I excise this device from my computer? Is there a 'rm'
command I can use to get rid of it?
