I have encountered a couple of issues with 16.04 (LTS) and X-Forwarding.

First, the setup I am using.

· From a Windows (10) box, using X-Ming, I regularly used
gnome-terminal windows from a Ubuntu server on my on my windows desktop.

· The setup worked well with 14.04 (LTS)

When I upgraded to 16.04 things got strange:

· Early in the setup of the upgraded system, gnome-terminal worked
as expected (almost).

o I was not able to get X-Forwarding to function consistently. Only
sometimes I was able to initiate other windows from the gnome-terminal
window for emacs, synaptic, google-chrome etc.

o Typically the first time works, but not afterword. This is an apparent
known issue. Note that *xterm* does not have the forwarding issue.

· I updated my .profile to what I typically use. In that setup, I
have “LANG=C”.

o If the value is set PRIOR to starting a gnome-terminal the process will
not run, erroring out with a message about not being able to connect to the
bus. Apparently gnome-terminal uses a “bus” service to communicate
requests. The “LANG=C” seems to prevent that service from starting.

o If gnome-terminal is run before “LANG=C” is set, the service is started
and gnome-terminal runs.

o If the default value for LANG is used “LANG=en_US.UTF-8”, then
gnome-terminal has starts, but still has the forwarding issue.

I hope this helps people in PLUG.
