Folks,
I have a "Wifi thermostat" from Honeywell, the drawback is you have to
connect
the thing to the cloud, for some reason the thermostat can reach the server,
but I can not get to it. It was working night before last but as of
yesterday I
have not been able to reach the site. The thermostat is talking to the
server,
but if I try to get to the site:
https://mytotalconnectcomfort.com/portal
I get a site can not be reached error. I believe it has to do with the
Hughes
net part of my internet connection, if I us my cell to connect to it I am
able
to connect just fine. As I am using a microcell so the connection tunnels
through the Hughesnet link, so it exits beyond the hughesnet stuff and
is able to reach the server. I can also reach the web site, so it appears
to be on the Hughesnet side. I have tried to ping from the router, that
puts all of the local network behind so there is only the wan port and the
satellite modem in there.

Here is a MTR going over Hughesnet

Notice at the top of the capture the following line:
Resolver: Received error response 2. (server failure)

Here is a MTR done over the cellular using it as a tunnel over the
satellite link.
The Resolver error is missing, and I can reach the web site.

So where do I poke, at Hughesnet?
When I replace this thermostat, I am going to find one that does not need
the cloud to work. I thought someone had hacked the thing and had a how to
for setting up a local server but I was not able to find it. This is a
excellent app
for a RPi...
