I have the same printer and I can confirm what Erik said. I should add,
however, that when I installed it on Xubuntu 14.04 there were no
drivers. I later found a script on Brother's website that installs the
needed packages. I can't remember if the packages were in the Ubuntu
repositories or if the script got them from Brother, but the script
worked well and all the functions of the printer are available.

I should also caution about remanufactured cartridges. The cartridge
that comes with the printer is only about one third full, so I needed
new cartridges fairly soon. I bought two of the brand Greencycle, and
the first one is usable, but a bit faint in the middle of the page. Not
all remanufacturers do a good job.
