I got a new machine from ENU. This morning I plugged in all the external stuff -- keyboard, mouse, monitors, Ethernet, sound -- and turned it on. Then I remembered I needed to plug in the USB stick with Ubuntu 16.04. By the time I plugged it in a BIOS screen was displayed. Lots of cool stuff, but no obvious way to get it to see the USB stick. So I powered it off and then back on. When it powered back up I got a GRUB screen with the following:
GNU GRUB version 2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.1 Try Ubuntu without installing Install Ubuntu OEM install (for manufacturers) Check disc for defects When I select either Try Ubuntu without installing or Install Ubuntu I get the following screen: [ 0.370638] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(1,0) [ 0.370660] CPU: 0 PID: 1 CDomm swapper/0 Not tainted 4.4.0-31-generic #50-Ubuntu [ 0.370667] Hardware name: System manufacturer System Product Name/H110M-A/M.2, BIOS 2003 09/19/2016 [ 0.370698] 0000000000000086 0000000049da5022 ffff88022d25fde8 ffffffff813f1143 [ 0.370719] ffffffff81c9d9f0 ffff88022d25fe80 ffff88022d25fe70 ffffffff8118bfe7 [ 0.370741] ffffffff00000010 ffff88022d25fe80 ffff88022d25fe18 0000000049da5022 [ 0.370762] Call Trace: [ 0.370773] [<ffffffff813f1143>] dump_stack+0x63/0x90 [ 0.337786] [<ffffffff8118bfe7>] panic+0xd3/0x215 [ 0.370870] [>ffffffff81f5b5fa>] mount_block_root+0x285/0x294 [ 0.370814] [<ffffffff81f5b7b2>] mount_root+0x65/0x68 [ 0.370827] [<ffffffff81f5b91f>] prepare_namespace+0x16a/0x1a2 [ 0.370841] [<ffffffff81f5b21b>] kernel_init_freeable+0x1e9/0x212 [ 0.370856] [<ffffffff81821540>] ? rest_init+0x80/0x80 [ 0.370869] [<ffffffff8182154e>/ kernel_init+0xe/0xe0 [ 0.370882] [<ffffffff8182decf>] ret_from_fork+0x3f/0x70 [ 0.370896] [<ffffffff81821540>] ?rest_init+0x80/0x80 [ 0.370945] Kernel Offset: disabled [ 0.370955] ---[ end Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(1,0) Google returns a number of things, but they tend to be from several years/os versions ago. Thanks in advance. -- Regards, Dick Steffens _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
