Paul, Appear to be separate binaries: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Mar 9 2014 /usr/bin/awk -> ../../bin/awk* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 Mar 9 2014 /usr/bin/gawk -> ../../bin/gawk* but, $ awk --version GNU Awk 4.1.0, API: 1.0 (GNU MPFR 3.1.2, GNU MP 5.1.3) $ gawk --version GNU Awk 4.1.0, API: 1.0 (GNU MPFR 3.1.2, GNU MP 5.1.3) and he man page for awk displays the gawk man page so I wonder why /usr/bin/awk doesn't point to ../../bin/gawk.
