   Regardless, somehow when I moved the mouse off the top of the screen it
closed that v.t. and set all other Xfce4 virtual desktops constantly opening
new v.t.s and browsers. It was out of control; I could not stop them. Even
killing the X Window system, logging out, and back in didn't stop this
behavior. Never before experienced it. So, I got a console and rebooted the
system. Lost about 18 hours of model run time, but the laptop is once again
stable.

   I'll learn reptyr and have it installed on all hosts.
