Until recently, I had been running my Sabertooth-based system with Ubuntu 16.10
64-bit and an AMD R9 270 GPU. Then last week I swapped that card for a somewhat
better Nvidia card, the Geforce 970.
When attempting to boot in the usual way, there is a bunch of garbage on the
screen. Since I had intended to upgrade to 17.04 anyhow, I installed that on a
scratch disk to determine what the results would be, using a text-based
installation. Upon booting into that installation, I again got a bunch of
garbage on the screen (but the rest of the hardware appears to be working).
If I could get a text console (R/W), it would improve my chances of solving
this problem. Is there a way to do this? I would even consider a different
version of Linux that is better adapted to Nvidia hardware, if anyone has
advice.
