In addition to setting nohup when a process (such as compiling Qt5 which
can take 11-12 hours on a dual-core, older machine such as this i686 AMD
Athlon II X2 255 Processor AuthenticAMD) or running the shell command, I
just learned a third way and share it in case others find it useful.

   I started the qt5.Slackbuild script about 3:00pm today; it will work
through the night until completion so I went looking for a solution. Here it
is:

   Press Ctrl-Z to pause the program.

   $  [1] +  Stopped myprogram
   $ disown -h %1
   $ bg 1
   [1]+ myprogram &
   $ logout (or follow your normal logout process from the X Window System).

HTH,

Rich
