SOLVED: SSH is using IPV6 from laptop to server while server to laptop is using IPV4. Successfully logged into server from laptop using the IPV4 address. Another GOTCHA to be aware of.
To configure ssh to use IPV4 do this <https://stackoverflow.com/questions/21671706/configure-git-to-use-ipv4-instead-of-ipv6-by-default> .
