[PLUG] SMS/Texting interface for Linux desktop/laptop

Many people use SMS messaging and handheld screen taps,
but not email. 

Is there a good SMS-to-SMTP-email service Out There? 
Alternatively, is there a good Linux-compatible
hardware for this task?
