There is different behavior when logged in remotely versus being local user. I cannot see a difference in the actual usb device rwx permissions as far as I recall.
I will double check when I get to physical proximity to that HW. I used to be able to workaround through VNC in old distros in the past. Using too old distro because of remote HW access restriction is proving unworkable - Hence the pain is back - from the lack of simple access control and/or decent comprehensive access control specific documentation. Maybe I should talk to some AI. It surely read linux source code - maybe it can suggest some changes or write me the documentation I need!
